Skincare isn’t a casual endeavor for me and it’s definitely something I am more than willing to invest in. The constant changes in Chicago weather do my skin no favors, so I knew I needed to find a new place to get facials. That’s where Mud Facial Bar came in. Located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago, it’s a short Uber ride to reach after classes. The space also contains an aerial workout studio which is great to try before or after your appointment!

MUD offers “speed” facials that take about 30 minutes altogether. This being said, these are not the stereotypical serene and calm facials offered by your dermatologist. The technicians play popular music in the background and the facial room is a shared space. While this may seem off-putting it’s perfect for those of us with busy schedules and about half the price of the traditional facial! The aesthetically pleasing set up is a huge plus too.

MUD is dedicated to using all natural ingredients and non irritating approaches to combat common skin concerns. I usually get the “Fresh” or “Charcoal” facial mask along with the additional treatment of extractions (manually unclogging pores and removing blackheads). They do have some more daring options on the menu, like adding breast milk to your facial mixture (YIKES), which are a bit out of my comfort zone!

The facial technicians are extremely knowledgable both in technique and general skin care. During one of my first appointments, the technician advised me to add more zinc into my diet through supplements as it is supposed to help with the inflammation caused by acne. They also have plenty of suggestions to help with hormonal acne!

Next time you’re in Boulder or Chicago book yourself an appointment and see why this spot is one of my favorites! You can also check them out online atΒ MUD Facial Bar.
